Caroline lives in Askrigg in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. She worked and trained to become a ropemaker at Outhwaites Ropemakers in Hawes (est. 1905) nearly 7 years ago, having previously worked in the hotel industry for more than 30 years.
A simple search of Heritage Crafts sadly shows that the art of Ropemaking is in decline in the UK, with more and more products being shipped in from overseas. Askrigg Ropemakers formed when Outhwaites closed its doors in Autumn 2022 and is dedicated to creating handmade, bespoke items and keeping the art of Ropemaking in the UK very much alive.
