Carol Yates - Carol Yates Art

I mainly work in soft pastels in a realistic style, but I have been experimenting recently with mixed media (ink, pastel and watercolour). My main subject is wildlife, however I am venturing into floral art and landscapes, as I love exploring and experimenting.

Since starting to paint again, I am so much more aware of things around me. I see shape, colour, texture, shadow and light in a different way, and imagine capturing the subject on canvas.

I am inspired by the work of others. My work leans towards realism, so I am drawn to the work of the masters and artist such as Xavier Mulio and Tim Gustav. That said I also love Impressionism and would love to learn to paint more “loosely”, so I search for artists past and present for inspiration.
